This means that we are growing Omaha and Nebraska’s skilled workforce\, which attracts more jobs\, which means lower unemployment for the communities in our city that have been locked out of education and jobs\, which means (hopefully) that those jobs that pay minimum wage have to compete for better-trained workers with credentials\, and so offer more competitive wages and benefits. Now I know all of the above is contingent on the idea that politicians will behave rationally\, but Metro continues to exist and thrive on the idea that if you give someone the tools and support they need to succeed\, they will. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 day of show at the door. All proceeds benefit the theater’s capital campaign. \n“Back in the day\, a typical vaudeville performance was made up of a series of separate\, unrelated acts grouped together on a common bill\,” said Benson Theatre Executive Director Amy Ryan. “Our goal is to use this format to introduce new audiences to a diversity of local talent while raising funds for the renovation of our future home at 6054 Maple Street.” \nAly Peeler will emcee the January showcase\, which will include performances by Travis Newcombe (magic)\, Michelle Troxclair (spoken word)\, Derek Kordash (martial arts)\, Dolce Vita and the Omaha Snake\, Suzy Fendrick (ballet) and Big Canvas (comedy/improv). The evenings also will include a brief presentation from Ryan on Benson Theatre’s restoration efforts. \nThe entertainment lineup is the same both nights\, Ryan said\, and includes an intermission.
